The Future of American Manufacturing Runs on Smart Software

Over the past year, I’ve had a front-row seat to how small and mid-sized manufacturers are struggling with something most people don’t think about: their systems.

I’ve seen companies running on nothing but whiteboards, Excel sheets, and handwritten notes. I’ve seen business owners juggling five different tools just to keep track of inventory, orders, and production schedules. Not because they’re disorganized—because the kind of software that would actually help them either doesn’t exist, or it’s way too complicated and expensive for what they need.

That’s exactly what inspired me to start Centaurus Stellar Labs—not as a software engineer, but as someone who saw a problem that wasn’t being solved. My goal wasn’t to reinvent the tech, but to build a company that could bring real, practical solutions to businesses that are often overlooked in the innovation conversation.

Why Small Manufacturers Deserve Better

The U.S. has over 250,000 manufacturing firms, and more than 98% of them are small businesses. These companies don’t have R&D departments or six-figure budgets for software. But they’re critical to our supply chains, our local economies, and the country’s ability to compete globally.

A lot of the attention in tech goes to startups, SaaS giants, or Fortune 500s. Meanwhile, smaller manufacturers are stuck with disconnected tools—or no tools at all. According to a recent survey by the National Association of Manufacturers, over 45% of small manufacturers still rely on manual or spreadsheet-based systems to manage core operations.

That disconnect is what we’re working to fix.

The Software Gap No One Talks About

At Centaurus Stellar Labs, we’re focused on building tools that don’t overwhelm the user. Our flagship product, Stellar Business Suite, brings everything together: production, inventory, purchasing, customer communication, reporting—and it does it in a way that doesn’t require a tech team to implement.

We're working with engineering partners and developers to build a platform that feels like it was made for the small business, not adapted from something meant for global corporations.

The goal? A solution that gets rid of operational headaches, saves time, and grows with the company.

Supporting People, Not Replacing Them

One thing I hear a lot when we talk about automation or digital systems is the fear that it’ll replace workers. But that’s not what we’re doing here. Our mission is to support people, not phase them out.

Automation, when done right, frees people up. It reduces repetitive tasks, cuts down on errors, and makes room for more meaningful work. When a business owner doesn’t have to spend three hours reconciling orders from two different spreadsheets, that’s time they get back to lead, plan, or rest.

Software should feel like a helpful team member—not a cold system trying to replace the real ones.

The Big Picture: Why This Matters

If we’re serious about strengthening American manufacturing, it can’t just be about tax credits or reshoring policies. It has to include modernizing the infrastructure these businesses run on every day.

Without the right systems in place, even the most capable manufacturers will struggle to keep up with demand, scale, or compete in global markets.

Digital tools—the right digital tools—are part of that solution. That’s what we’re building at Centaurus Stellar Labs.

Let’s Build Something Better—Together

We’re still early in this journey, but we’re building with purpose.

If you’re running a manufacturing business—or any operation still juggling disconnected tools—I’d love to hear from you. I’m constantly learning from the people doing the work every day, and their insights are shaping everything we build.
